An Indian Engineering Conglomerate Reduced Carbon Footprints by Strategically Keeping Sustainability at the Centre

The motor and generator manufacturing major transitioned from conventional energy sources to renewable sources and showed its commitment to the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) framework. In FY23, 10.5% of the company's overall energy requirement was achieved through renewable energy, cutting emissions by 3,357.75 tCO2e (tons of carbon dioxide equivalent). Solar rooftops were the primary source, having a capacity of 4,507 kilowatts in FY23.

Rooftop solar panels fulfilled 16.9% of the total electricity requirement of the industrial systems division units in FY23. In the transformer division, a 348-kilowatt capacity solar generation plant was installed, which produced 4.32 lakh solar units and led to savings of Rs 22.41 lakhs in FY23.

In switchgear plants, rooftop solar panels with a capacity of 992-kilowatt peak were installed. In FY23, this step saved 12.28 lakh units of energy and Rs 72.08 lakhs.

The company’s energy intensity per crore of revenue decreased to 24.50 Gigajoules in FY23 from 28.91 Gigajoules in FY22. Installation of variable-frequency drives and light-emitting diode lights are some of the energy-saving steps taken by the company.

In FY23, the integration of GA55 Compressor for power testing reduced energy consumption by 2,88,000 kilowatt hours and emissions by 205.92 tCO2e (tons of carbon dioxide equivalent). Fitting of timers in air handling units saved 3,12,000 kilowatt hours of energy and reduced emissions by 223.08 tCO2e in FY23. Installation of a lower capacity generator and motion sensors in the power transformer plant saved 46,800 kilowatt hours of energy and cut costs by Rs 4.5 lakhs in FY23.

The company that makes electrical equipment for the power, industrial, and railway sectors utilizes green energy in its operations and reduces emissions to pose as a responsible and economical enterprise in the world.
