Turning Commitment into Action: 2025 Sustainability Shifts

A world-renowned industrial gas company is focusing its efforts on developing and delivering technological solutions that enhance its sustainability performance. Guided by the principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the company demonstrates a substantial and measurable shift toward a more sustainable future.

The production of industrial gases is inherently energy-intensive, and the company recognizes this challenge. To address it, they have implemented rigorous systems to track and manage energy use, aiming to lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and mitigate climate impacts. In 2024, despite an increase in overall energy intensity, the share of renewable electricity used rose significantly to 28%, up from 25% in 2022.

GHG emissions remain a core concern, both as a risk and as an opportunity for innovation. The company has adopted advanced monitoring methods to assess climate transition and physical risks, turning insights into strategic advantages. Notably, scope 3 GHG emissions fell to 8.5 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) in 2024, down from 8.7 million metric tons of CO₂e in 2022.

Addressing water-related risks is another priority. The company continues to pursue circular water management approaches to reduce freshwater consumption. In 2024, total water use decreased to 48,430 megalitres, compared to 49,640 megalitres in 2023.

Aligned with SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), the company has also advanced its waste reduction initiatives. Through improved treatment, storage, disposal, and recycling systems, hazardous waste generation decreased by 3,580 metric tons in 2024, representing a significant decline from 10,670 metric tons in 2023.

By integrating renewable energy, improving resource management, and reducing waste, the company not only meets its environmental goals but also sets a benchmark for the broader industrial gas sector. Moreover, it serves as a powerful example of how technological innovation and responsible practices can together shape a cleaner, more resilient future.
