Energy conservation is a key initiative in the transition towards Net Zero; therefore, in FY 2023-24, one of the company’s refineries achieved a Specific Energy Consumption (SEC/MBN) of 60.9, reflecting the success of its conservation measures.
Moreover, the company made great strides to implement monitoring systems on steam leaks and flare gas recovery to look at the conditions and effectively minimise flare losses. Therefore, in the year 2024, they were able to recover a total of 1,727 MT.
In terms of energy consumption, the domestic refineries saw a reduction in the total energy consumed to 2.14 GJ/MT (Gigajoules/Million Tons) in 2023 -2024 from 3.25 GJ/MT in 2019- -2020, which showcased progress towards energy efficiency.
The company focused on expanding the use of renewable energy to progress towards a sustainable future. In 2024, its total installed renewable energy capacity reached 94.89 MWh (Megawatt-hour). During the same year, renewable energy consumption stood at 50,573.63 MWh, marking a significant increase from 33,569.47 MWh in the baseline year 2020.
Through large investments in renewables and a concentrated effort to lower its carbon footprint, the company is creating a strong and sustainable business model, proving that energy leadership and sustainability are compatible.
