A global energy company has made impressive progress on the sustainability path by adopting environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. Tackling climate change remains the top priority for the company. The energy major is thus channelizing all its energy to lower greenhouse gas emissions across its operations and supply chain.
In 2023, the company’s total emissions for Scope 1 and 2, which pertain to assets and activities within its control, totaled 57 million tons of CO2 equivalent - a 2% decrease from 2022 and a significant 31% reduction since 2016.
Additionally, emissions linked to energy product sales (Scope 3) also dropped, down from 1,174 million tons in 2022 to 1,147 million tons in 2023. On the other hand, the company managed to reduce its direct emissions (Scope 1) from 51 million tons in 2022 to 50 million tons in 2023.
