Hong Kong Property Developer Goes Green

A construction company operating in Hong Kong and Mainland China was able to cut its Green House Gas (GHG) emissions intensity by nearly 20%, throughout its portfolio, using digital technologies and low carbon integrated materials.

Construction industry's methods, materials and operations account for 25 to 40 percent of the world`s total carbon emissions (as on 2019). Mining and transportation of raw materials also has a considerable carbon and water footprint.

This company surmounted this ESG (environmental, social & governance) performance hurdle by utilising a sustainable approach to construction which is reflected in a green building it built in 2018.

It used 3D modelling techniques to optimise the building's energy efficiency. It installed smart lighting systems that reduce electricity consumption with sunlight & motion sensors, and a biodiesel generation system that converts waste food oil into biodiesel. Low carbon embedded, and recycled materials were used in construction.

The company emerged an ESG performance exemplar with its green approach to construction, and successfully aligned itself with sustainability goals of its stakeholders.
