​For Net Zero, Indian Auto Company is Igniting Operations with Renewables ​

An Indian commercial vehicles manufacturer is fuelling its operations with ESG practices to showcase its Net Zero commitment. The company is shifting gears by increasing its reliance on renewable on its path to long-term goal of Net Zero. In the medium term, it is aiming for carbon-neutral operations by 2030 by shifting to 100% energy dependence on renewables in the same year.

The company is focusing on various alternative solutions to decrease its dependence on fossil fuels for energy, including installing rooftop solar power plants and other methods. The management leads by example - company’s corporate office is now holds a LEED v4.1 Platinum certificate. On the whole, the company has achieved 57% reliance on renewable energy, with solar energy accounting for 37% and wind energy 20%. The Indian auto major operates a 75 MW solar park, while roof-top solar power panels across different units produce a total of 10.14 MW power. Use of solar energy alone has resulted in a reduction of 83,780 tCO2e emissions. The solar park employs mechanical cleaning technology for upkeep, which helps in conservation of 9 million litres of water annually, apart from reducing carbon footprints.

During the FY 2022-2023, the energy efficiency plan successfully slashed emissions by 130,186 tCO2e. Concurrently, approximately 45,360 gigajoules were preserved, leading to significant savings of around Rs 10.70 crores in energy expenses. These achievements were facilitated by increased awareness, power quality audits, and the implementation of energy efficiency initiatives.

The Indian auto company is proving to be trailblazer in environmental stewardship, harnessing renewable energy and sustainability practices to pave the way for a cleaner future.
