An Indian shipbuilding and vessel manufacturing company is making the seas 'green' by minimising the environmental impact of its operations. For smooth sailing in the rough seas of climate change, the company has imbibed ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles. As part of its aim to become a responsible company, it is implementing energy conservation initiatives and promoting usage of solar energy.
In the cranes' lighting system, old HPMV (High-Pressure Mercury Vapour) lights were replaced with LED (Light-Emitting Diode) lights, which saved 49,713 units of energy and Rs 3.23 lakhs of cost in FY23.The ship repair player installed energy-efficient lights, VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) air conditioning systems, and BLDC (Brushless Direct Current) fans at the facilities in FY23. These initiatives helped save 1,60,606 units of energy and Rs 10.44 lakhs in FY23.
To enhance the usage of renewable energy, a 1622 kWp (Kilowatt Peak) capacity solar power plant was started in March 2023, which generated 18.34 lakh units of energy in FY23.
This showcased that a company aim to boost its revenue by thoughtfully adopting sustainable practices. A long with that, a well-designed approach towards energy use can give a company the stature of a climate-friendly organisation in the industry.
