The global communications solutions provider has incorporated sustainable practices by starting green data centers and embracing renewable energy sources. In FY23, the company utilized 156,698 MWh (Megawatt Hours) of renewable energy, which is 71% higher than the FY22 usage. Further, 14,676 MWh of electricity was saved through energy-saving initiatives, leading to a cost savings of Rs 150 million in FY23.
Onsite installation of solar technology helped the company generate 344,498 kWh (kilowatt hour) of renewable energy in FY23. Electric commutator fans were installed in diesel generators or low-tension rooms, leading to an energy savings of 64,800 kWh. The optimization of UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems saved 727,945 kWh, while the transition to LED (Light-emitting diode) lighting saved 10,965 kWh of energy in FY23.
In FY23, 33% of the company’s total electricity requirement for data centers was met through renewable energy sources. Through open access or power-wheeling contracts, about 154,384 MWh of renewable energy was purchased for data and main switching centers, cutting carbon emissions by an estimated 109,612 tCO2e (tons of carbon dioxide equivalent) in FY23. The installation of solar panels at the centers resulted in renewable energy production of 1,763,018 kWh in FY23.
The company took various energy-saving steps at its data centers in FY23. These included installation of LED lights and motion sensors, which saved 88,464 kWh of energy. Using active tiles and air diverters and managing set points for cooling helped the company cut its energy usage by 1,984,494 kWh in FY23. Better UPS systems and improved power factor lowered company’s energy usage by 1,648,465 kWh in FY23. Similar energy-saving methods were used at its main switching centers, which saved 9,010,672 kWh of energy in FY23.
