One of the largest E-commerce company takes up the climate pledge to reach net-zero carbon emissions across its operations by 2040. The company prioritises investing in new solutions to decarbonise its business and in resources that drive progress across its supply chains.
To achieve net-zero carbon emissions in the year 2040, the company was able to reduce its indirect emissions from other sources to 72.6 MMTCO2e (Million metric ton carbon dioxide equivalent) in FY 2024, compared to its baseline, which was 122.8 MMTCO2e in 2019.
Moreover, the company also aimed to reduce food waste by 50% across their specific international operations by 2030. In 2024, the company helped provide the equivalent of 81 million meals worldwide and the remaining food waste was diverted to organic waste treatment.
By applying the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle, the company achieved an 85% landfill diversion rate in 2024, an improvement from 82% in 2022. In the same year, the waste diversion rate rose to 83%, up from 79% in 2022, demonstrating substantial progress in sustainability.
In terms of packaging, the company reduced its usage of single-use plastic to 74,137 MT (Metric ton) globally in 2024, compared to 88,698 MT in 2023, reflecting a 16.4% reduction.
To conclude, the company has demonstrated evident progress in reducing emissions, minimising waste, and promoting circularity, thereby making sustainability a core business priority. While challenges remain on the path to net-zero by 2040, steady progress since 2019 demonstrates a strong commitment to reimagining supply chains in line with climate goals.
