Plan A in Action: Roadmap to a Net-Zero, Sustainable Future

A prominent multinational retailer specialising in clothing, homecare and food continues to advance its sustainability agenda through its comprehensive "Plan A" initiative. The strategy aims to foster an equitable society by embedding sustainability into every facet of the business, with the overarching goal of achieving net-zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2040.

In the financial year 2024-2025, the company reported a total energy consumption of 1,439,544,439 kWh (Kilowatt-hour), marking a reduction from 1,460,084,185 kWh in 2023-2024. This decrease reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance energy efficiency.

Regarding greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the company achieved a significant milestone by reducing its location-based scope 1 and 2 emissions to 360,680 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2024–25. It marks a 33% reduction from the base year figure of 536,852 tons, aligning with the company’s target of achieving a 55% reduction by 2029–30.

In addition, the company reported that 91% of the polyester used in its fashion, beauty, and home goods during 2024–25 was sourced from verified recycled materials, up from 70% in 2023–24, demonstrating a strong commitment to circular economy principles.

In terms of packaging, the company maintained its zero operational waste to landfill status and removed 148.1 million plastic units from its packaging in 2024-2025, an increase from 144 million units in 2023-2024.

Through its “Plan A” initiative, the company has demonstrated a robust commitment to sustainability, making significant strides in energy efficiency, emissions reduction, sustainable sourcing, and waste management. These efforts underscore the company’s dedication to reshaping its policies towards sustainable and profitable growth, aiming to become a net-zero business in the near future.
