Sustainability Milestones of a Leading Asian Enterprise

A leading multinational company in personal care, cosmetics, household products, cleaning solutions, and speciality chemicals has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability by setting an ambitious target to achieve carbon zero by 2040. The company is working towards a more sustainable future for the next generation through the development of innovative technologies and by reducing CO₂ (carbon dioxide) emissions across its value chain in collaboration with stakeholders.

In its pursuit of a carbon-zero and carbon-negative future, the company made significant progress in 2024. It achieved a 15% reduction in absolute full lifecycle CO₂ (carbon dioxide) emissions, compared to just 4% in 2021. Notably, in scope 1 and 2 emissions, there was a substantial 42% reduction, up from a 20% reduction in 2021.

The company continues to make strides in energy transformation. By 2024, 69% of the energy used across its operational sites came from renewable sources, a remarkable increase from 39.5% in 2021. Furthermore, the total energy consumption declined to 16.5 PJ (petajoules) in the financial year 2024, down from 17.9 PJ in the baseline year of 2005, indicating sustained improvements in energy efficiency.

As part of its waste reduction goals, the company aimed to reduce the amount of discarded products and promotional materials by 95%. In 2024, it achieved a 35% reduction in such waste. Progress was also evident in the increased use of recycled plastic, which rose to 6.4 thousand tons in 2024 from 2.6 thousand tons in 2022. Overall waste generated at operational sites decreased to 194,000 tons in 2024 from 213,000 tons in 2022, supported by the implementation of the 3R model (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).

Water sustainability remained a key priority. In 2024, the company reduced water usage across its entire product lifecycle to 16.3 million m³ (cubic meter), down from 17.1 million m³ (cubic meter) in 2020. Additionally, water consumption per unit of sales at production sites decreased by 51%, a notable improvement from the 39% reduction recorded in 2020. It reflects substantial progress in water efficiency and sustainability, driven by improved operational practices.

The company’s 2024 sustainability efforts demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. With significant strides in carbon reduction, renewable energy use, waste management, and water conservation, it aligns with global climate goals while setting an industry benchmark. These achievements reflect meaningful progress toward its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.
